5 out of 5 stars Almost too good!   December 20, 2007

I bought one of these machines in Italy a few years ago and it is still going strong there. It produces espresso that is almost too good, in the sense that the "schiuma", the foam on top of the coffee itself, is much thinker and denser than that of any espresso I have had at a caffe in either the U.S. or Italy. It also makes an excellently foamed cappucino, thanks to the included device that draws milk (2% works best) from a container and froths it to a very good consistency. I like it so much that I am about to order another for use here in the U.S.

5 out of 5 stars Great little espresso maker   December 6, 2007

I bought this espresso machine after using a similar one as a member of the espresso club at my job. We purchase our coffee beans from Starbucks and we are able to produce espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes which are far superior to the ones made in the store and for a fraction of the cost. It is a simple machine to use, and in my opinion, it's great for the beginning barista. The steaming wand is a nice feature, but I think it should have been made without any plastic parts. When I use it, I simply take the plastic part off and use just the stainless steel part. That way, it is much easier to clean. I don't see any use for the Pannarello milk-frothing device, as I don't like a lot of foam on my drinks.

I highly recommend this product and for the record, I purchased my Saeco Magic Cappuccino from a different online merchant.

5 out of 5 stars Great Machine   September 22, 2007

I bought my machine about 6 months ago and it has been absolutely great! Definitely a good investment. The only complaint that I have is that it is hard to find the cleaner for it. Other than that I have had no problems with it.

My husband and I were spending a fortune on cappuccinos. We finally decided that we needed to just suck it up and purchase our own machine. The problem is that neither of us know much about machines. We are very much amateurs, so we wanted something easy, and were not willing to pay an arm and a leg for a machine. After extensive online research, I discovered this machine. It was one of the only ones that seemed to have consistent rave reviews, and was reasonably priced. We've had the machine for a couple of months now, and I am happy to report that this machine was worth every penny. The quality of the espresso and cappuccinos is excellent. It is extremely easy to use and clean. We read over the manual once in order to learn how to operate it, and haven't had any problems since. This was definitely a wise purchase, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality, easy-to-use machine. I, as well as my neighbors and friends, are enjoying it very much!

5 out of 5 stars Saeco Magic Plus is GREAT!!   December 16, 2008

I was very surprised at how well this espresso machine worked.

Make sure to experiment with the proper grind fineness of the beans to ensure proper extraction. There a numerous complaints about how Pressurized Portafilters create watery and weak crema. My machine can create crema that is very deep golden and smooth (it is thick enough to carry a 1/2 tsp. of sugar for 30-45 secs. before slowly falling through. Mind you I only have a cheap blade grinder. I was very surprised to find that my ground coffee actually extracts better than the factory illy e.s.e PODS I purchased for the machine.

The espresso tastes WAY better than what I've had at the local Starbucks, Peet's, and Seattle's Best at Borders books. The only other home espresso machine I have tried is the Nespresso brand, and the Saeco tastes even better still; there is more texture and flavor. The funny thing is that my beans are cheap Trader Joe's Java blend that are 6+ months old. Fresh quality beans are surely going to be even better.

As for the price to performance value I would say this espresso machine is a real bargain and should definitely be on your 'to try' list.
