Does as it says February 8, 2006 J. J. Ryan (Russiaville, In United States) 65 out of 68 found this review helpful
*The built in grinder works just fine and detatches easily so you can pour it into the filter.
*It uses Militta type #2 cone filters and the water drips slowly, so there are not flooding problems.
*Instead of filling the carafe, you fill the detatchable water tank. Not more or less convenient really, just different. Hey, you wanted to be different. Nice because it's not breakable like the carafe.
* 6 cup maker instead of 12 cups -- its my own fault I didn't notice that.
* Temp is fine. I think those fancy BUNN machines everyone loves so much get the brew so hot it destroys the flavor. That's just a personal opinion.
*I have not used the ice tea maker function - we already have a different unit for that, so I can't render an opinion.
* Small carbon filter twists off and they ask that you just rinse it in regular water before you make a fresh pot. Its suggested replacement is every 2 years - although most people never replace them, so its not a worry.
* Instructions are specific and simple - they also come in spanish / Se habla espanol :)
It does what it says it will do, but is it as great coffee maker?
No, it's as good as most. You can get a $20+ Mr. Coffee or whatever you like and it will do no better or worse, Im sure.
Pleasantly surprised September 16, 2006 Patricia Davis (Cave Creek, AZ) 37 out of 38 found this review helpful
I had been searching for a coffee maker with a built-in grinder and even went as far as purchasing a Cuisinart for $150.00, which I didn't care for and returned. There aren't that many coffee makers out there with the built-in grinders, so I decided to give the Sanyo a try. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how hot the coffee was (compared to the Cuisinart) and how delicious. I was a little bit disappointed in that I thought the grinder automatically ground the coffee and brewed it, but got over that quickly, since everything else was so great. I also would have preferred the coffee maker been in black rather than the dark gray color, but again, it is a minor flaw to me. All in all, for the money, I don't think there is a better coffeemaker out there with the features it has for the low price. Buy it! Patricia Davis in Cave Creek, AZ
The best bargain out there, hands down! September 3, 2007 Amazon Shopper (Brooklyn NY) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
My wife likes tea. I like coffee. We wanted a grinder as well, and we were nervous with anticipation when we saw we could get all THREE machines in one combo unit for under $40?
8 months after buying the unit, we could not be more pleased with it. The grinder is strong, the brewing is quick, and the coffee and tea are delicious. In fact, this is the ONLY unit I have ever seen with a tea-brewing function and the special tea basket. Normally I'd be skeptical, but since Sanyo is a Japanese company, you know it's a legit tea machine (and sure enough, good quality green tea tastes great coming out of the unit).
In short, it's not the fanciest, prettiest, or more feature rich unit, but it does everything you need a machine like this to do, and it's an absolute steal for the money. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone!
Good enough for a Sbux barista September 14, 2007 D. Lockwood 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this coffee maker when I went on maternity leave from Starbucks. I wasn't in the store very often and wanted to make coffee at home for my husband. The machine is small, not good if you have a big crowd, but perfect for me to make coffee for him every morning and sometimes for a few friends. The essentials for good coffee are; clean fresh water (have that) properly ground coffee (that's were most people run into problems) correct proportion (2 tbs for every 6 oz) and HOT water (this machine has that ability!) To get that strong tasty flavor out of coffee you need a machine that can get the water hot enough to extract the flavor. Many people try to put in more coffee or grind it improperly hoping to make it stronger that will only lead to bitter coffee. This machine made me very happy and it does tea to boot! (wasn't totally in love with tea function I like to steep mine longer that the machine allows.) So if your looking for an inexpensive coffee maker that has a small foot print and makes excellent coffee I would highly recommend this machine and recommend you ditch the Foldgers and have the beans of your choice ground for a paper cone (#6)!!!
Worth twice the price!!!!! January 31, 2007 enviro (Texas) 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
I'm a tea drinker and once in a while coffee. I also often need coffee for company. This is the best. I use it with the #2 gold permanent filter available here on Amazon from Medelco. I fill it at night and just push the button in the morning, just the right amount of tea for one or two. It is easy to clean. I looked at the expensive machines at around $200.00 and the price was OK but the K-cups for 100 cups could be as much as $55.00, with the Sanyo I use 100 Lipton tea bags for $2.25. That makes me happy in the morning. I bought some exotic coffee beans here at Amazon and they work great in the Sanyo. I was so please with the unit I bought more for gifts to share the fun. I would highly recommend this unit if you are only one or two and tea is as important as coffee. Oh, it is not really black more like a dark grey.
